Last week Luxelab founders David Abrams and Jason Lara and the Luxelab Academy hosted the latest in their creative educational series. This over the top event was designed to showcase L’Oreal Professionnel’s innovative new styling line: TecniArt.
Each of the 5 Luxe locations presented 3 spectacular models highlighting the awesome styling power of the new TecniArt products to a packed house of fellow stylists and L’Oreal bigwigs.
Their mission – to test the limits uses of this new line by creating larger than life hair fashion with an artistic twist…
L’Oreal specialists Keya Schaeffer and Priscilla Ochoa from our Pasadena location kicked the evening off. They took their inspiration from the streets and the awesome and sometimes gritty world of Graffiti from artists such as Banksy, Sheppard Ferry, and Retna.
Meanwhile Artlab project mentor, Beth Montgomery along with L’Oreal specialist Scotty Tracy took us out of the physical world with their interpretation of metaphysical sculpture. The textured hair of their gorgeous models was the perfect medium to create hair sculptures that were larger than life. By adding a splash of psychedelic accessories to their thought provoking looks, the audience was transported into the colorful world of abstract artists like Alex Grey and Luke Brown.
Reflection artist such Arnaud Lapierre and Anish Kapoor were among the inspirations brought to life by Luxelab Bel Air owner Shawn Cunningham and L’Oreal platform artist Eric Garza. Not only did the versatility of the products shine through in their presentation, but so did the reflective qualities of the hair and well oiled bodies of their models.
Drawing from light artists like James Turrell and Jenny Holzer, Caitlyn Luhman and Natassha Barrios from Chroma Color Bar gave us a light show of note, complete with light sticks in the audience and LED light strips sewn right into the models’ dresses. Hair hues were hot and vibrant and inspired by how light dances and bounces from the hair.
Luxelab Montana Avenue literally turned the ancient Japanese tradition of Origami on its head by folding their fierce and runway ready models’ hair into fabulous shapes and intricate designs, indicative of how technique and art have a symbiotic relationship. While Master Stylist Amanda Gonsoulin detailed the execution of color technique, Master Stylist Lauren Sill and Senior Stylist Alexander Maud took their creations to an extreme level by adding extravagant hair pieces to put their editorial signature on the looks.
Many thanks to all who contributed to making yet another Luxelab Academy educational event into an unmatched creative collaboration to remember!
