Fix Your Hair
Colette Simon and her husband emigrated to Los Angeles from South Africa in early 2000. Along with this big location move, Colette, with a solid background in the entertainment industry as a professional dancer as well as having excelled in advertising sales and public relations, decided it would be a good time to go back to school for her cosmetology license and to launch a new career into the hair industry. “It is never too late, in fiction or in life, to edit” and “Go Confidently, in the Direction of your Dreams” are two strong beliefs she carries with her. It takes courage to make changes, but the results are always one of growth and adventure.
This adventure lead her through the doors of the then newly opened Luxelab Salon on Montana Avenue. She quickly completed and graduated the Luxelab Academy Assistant Program and began building a busy and loyal clientele. She learned that one of the best parts of her new creative career choice was meeting many different people from all of the world and from all walks of life, and sharing in their life experiences, all while doing beautiful hair. “When you do a client’s hair for their wedding, or a milestone Birthday or Graduation or help them feel better about themselves while they recover from an illness, you are connected to them in a most intimate and profound way and you realize your profession is so much more than doing hair” feels Colette.
It wasn’t long before Luxelab owners David and Jason offered her the opportunity to become a Color Educator for the very academy that she graduated from. This was a most fulfilling addition to her career and helped her realize that she belonged in education and in supporting and helping build the careers of Luxelab stylists.
She continued to take on more responsibilities and roles in the salon and currently wears many different hats: Salon Manager – Director of Education – Master Stylist – Luxelab Color Educator
This means her life is busy and varied which keeps it exciting. Although she has been involved in many weddings, editorial photo shoots and backstage fashion events, her true passion is education so this is where she focuses most of her time and energy. She has attended countless world class educational events and academies such as BumbleandBumble in New York, Vidal Sassoon, Goldwell, Toni&Guy, Oribe Academy in Miami, as well as, L’Oréal Professionel hosted Academies in Melbourne, Australia and Vienna, Austria.
“As long as I am learning and exposing myself to new things, I can be inspired and motivated to continue bringing new opportunities and ideas to our ever evolving education program and the growing Luxelab family.”
If travel can be incorporated into the mix then she is in her happy place. Having lived, worked and traveled to over 20 countries and counting, world adventures and experiences, including cultures, food and wine, art, fashion, music, scenery and history, all play a huge part in what inspires her on a daily basis.
Colette and her husband Cliff love the outdoors, especially the beaches and ocean. They support each other and keep each other grounded by surrounding themselves with their close and beautiful families and friends that are scattered all around the world.
