Sustainable Practices

We got into this industry to create beauty, not make the planet uglier. Therefore we are committed to being responsible stewards of our home and promise to continue to look at new and innovative ways to help do our part for the environment because:

MOTHER NATURE DESERVES TO BE BEAUTIFUL TOO!

Who’s best at being worst? Everyone knows that oil production is the largest polluter on the planet. But did you know the second largest offender is the fashion industry? (Check out this short clip for more details: Fashion’s Crippling Impact On The Environment Is Only Getting Worse (HBO))

And hair salons aren’t far behind. More than 80% of salon waste is not readily recyclable and is considered toxic waste. What’s worse is most salons don’t even know it!

How could we have known? Like many salon owners, we thought we were doing the right thing by taking part in our city’s recycling programs. But what we didn’t know was; the vast majority of what we thought was recyclable simply wasn’t and ended up in our landfills and waterways… And no one from the city even told us!

So what now? In 2017 we launched the Luxe Green Initiative. With the help of our wonderful clients and Green Circle Salons we were able to switch the ratio to where now 95% of our salon waste is reused, recycled, or repurposed in some amazing and sometimes even surprising ways, such as:

– Oil boom sponges made from human hair used to clean oil spills – Haircolor waste burned for energy – Recycling previously unrecyclable color tubes and foils – Hair trimmings being used for construction additives – Even plastics made from human hair

But that wasn’t enough. We didn’t stop there. We decided to make other notable changes to try to help reduce waste such as:

– Replacing all lighting fixtures with low voltage LED lights – Discontinuing the use of plastic straws – Using only washable, glass and ceramic serving wear – Offering haircare product refill programs for our customers – Offering product container recycling incentives – Taking steps to lower our energy consumptions such as raising our thermostat, keeping our front door closed and installing sunshades to cut down on external heat.
